Über Iolanthe or the Peer and the Peri
Iolanthe Or The Peer And The Peri is a two-act comic opera written by William Schwenck Gilbert and first performed in 1882. The story follows the life of Iolanthe, a fairy who has been banished from the fairy kingdom for marrying a mortal. She is pardoned by the Fairy Queen and returns to the mortal world to find her husband and their son, Strephon. The plot thickens when the House of Lords becomes involved, and Iolanthe's fairy powers are used to help Strephon and Phyllis overcome the obstacles to their love. The opera is known for its witty and satirical lyrics, as well as its catchy tunes and lively choreography. It is a classic example of Gilbert and Sullivan's collaboration and remains a popular choice for opera companies and theater groups around the world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
