Über Manon
Manon is an opera in five acts written by Henri Meilhac, with music composed by Jules Massenet. The story follows the tragic love affair between the young and beautiful Manon Lescaut and the wealthy Chevalier des Grieux. Manon, who is torn between her love for des Grieux and her desire for luxury and wealth, ultimately chooses the latter and becomes a courtesan. The couple reunites briefly, but their happiness is short-lived as Manon is arrested and sentenced to deportation to America. In the final act, des Grieux follows Manon to America, where she dies in his arms. The opera explores themes of love, wealth, and morality, and is known for its beautiful arias and lush orchestration. Meilhac's libretto is based on the novel Manon Lescaut by Antoine Fran¿¿¿¿¿ois Pr¿¿¿¿¿vost. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
