Über Migration, Ethnicism and the Reconstruction of Identities
"Memory is impregnated with myths and legends that give meaning to the shared past and to the present that is lived, assuming oneself as a community of destiny. For the indigenous people, belonging to the Evangelical Church gives it meaning; it is to be the chosen people according to biblical interpretation. This ideology is intertwined with the Calvinist sense that they are predestined to salvation and therefore to the future enjoyment of heaven; it is a perspective of maintaining the expectation of also sharing the future, projecting their ethnic uniqueness in a transcendent "ethos", beyond earthly restrictions; it is to be saved". From Chapter IV of this book.
