On the Genesis of Species

Mivart was first an advocate for Darwinian natural selection and, later, a passionate opponent. In this beautifully illustrated 1871 text, Mivart presents objections to natural selection as the basis for evolution, particularly in explaining 'incipient stages' of complex structures. He advocated an innate power - an intelligence - underlying all organic life.
