Psychosocial Impact of Childhood Psychiatric Disorders

Psychological disorders in children are a major public health problem, and the situation of their parents presents a number of difficulties that need to be taken into account when caring for the child in question.From the moment of diagnosis or the appearance of the first signs of their child's mental illness, parents find themselves confronted with a series of psychosocial difficulties (discrimination, stigmatization, social isolation, loss of close contact, distress and powerlessness), as well as difficulties inherent in support, follow-up and the purchase of medication. They often find themselves misunderstanding, confused or even not accepting their child's situation.This situation can also have a detrimental impact on the quality of attachment relationships between couples and between parents and children, impinging on care and failure to keep appointments.
