Über Revenge
The Revenge: A Tragedy is a play written by Edward Young and first performed in 1721. The story is set in ancient Rome and centers around the character of Zanga, a Moorish slave who seeks revenge against his former master, the Spanish nobleman Alonzo. Alonzo had betrayed and sold Zanga into slavery, and now Zanga plots to exact his revenge by manipulating Alonzo's son, Carlos, into killing his own father. Along the way, Zanga engages in a series of complex and morally ambiguous schemes, as he seeks to balance his desire for revenge with his own sense of honor and justice. The play explores themes of betrayal, revenge, and the corrupting influence of power, and is considered a classic example of the 18th-century English tragedy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
