Five years have passed since Sarah Edwards lost her mother and almost destroyed the world. Now, on the run from those that would use her growing unnatural powers to finish the job with what remains of her broken family, a call for help from the beyond echoes in her dreams: Sarah's mother Lilian is alive inside the Rend, trapped in unending torment.

Sharing these dreams and hellbent on saving his lost wife, Sarah's stepfather Marcus leaves to investigate a possible means of rescuing Lilian, leaving Sarah and Tia to fend for themselves while the viels close in.
