Thackeray's Critics

In his introductory essay Flamm describes the reception of Thackeray's work, identifies the principal critical attitudes that were applied to his writing, evaluates the basis for those attitudes, and provides a frame of reference for the items in the bibliography. He also suggests some helpful guidelines for the use of the bibliographic materials.
