The Life of Mrs Godolphin

Margaret Godolphin (1652-78), a deeply religious and exceptionally beautiful courtier, was maid of honour in the household of Queen Catherine, wife of King Charles II. This adulatory biography, the work of her devoted friend John Evelyn (1620-1706), was first published in 1847, nearly two centuries after its composition.
