The Oregon Trail

Francis Parkman (1823-93), a well-known historian of colonial North America, is still admired for his literary style. This famous early work (1847-9), reissued here in its revised sixth edition (1878), describes Parkman's adventurous journey from St Louis to the Rocky Mountains and his interactions with the Oglala Sioux.
