Urban communities and cultures of sacrifice

He argues that addiction treatment, both in Mexico and in Barcelona, complements a framework of "sacrifice" through which consumers have to go through in order to feel that they deserve recovery and cure. This sacrifice generates a toxic culture that permeates the different instances of assistance, emergency and recovery. Nothing is free from this thick toxicity that institutions and the community reproduce.
