Suzanne Brøgger har kaldt digtet for "Nordens svar på Johannes' Åbenbaring". Derfor er Vølvens Spådom blevet oversat og gendigtet utallige gange. Denne antologi består af 26 udgaver af digtet. To på originalsproget - oldislandsk og 24 i oversættelse til hhv. dansk, norsk, svensk og en enkelt til latin. Ad åen ved Grenaa og videre gennem Kolindsund kunne man med vikingetidens lavtstikkende skibe sejle helt ind til området ved Kolind. Oplandet med bebyggelser omkring Kolindsund var stærkt medvirkende til, at brostedet ved Grenaa blev til en købstad. "Grenaa i vikingetid og middelalder" handler særligt om det område i Grenaa, som må have været det mest afgørende for, at byen grundlagdes på lige netop dette sted. I kerneområdet lige syd for åen ved Århusvej krydsedes vandvejen af landevejen. I dette lavtliggende område lå fra ældre tid i åens slyngninger holmene Kongs¬holm, Borgholm, Boholm og Kirkeholm. Her opstod der skibsbro, vejbro, vandmølle, spedalskhedshospital samt en mindre bebyggelse med nogle få huse og en enkelt bondegård. Stedet har haft en attraktiv beliggenhed for byens første fiskere, håndværkere og handlende. Det er sandsynligt, at også byens kongsgård fra oprindelig lå i dette område vest for landevejen, hvor den kan have været befæstet af delvist naturlige vandgrave.

Hvorfor denne bog? Denne bog er ikke en udtømmende biografi. Tyngden er først og fremmest mine egne, stærke erindringsbilleder af en unik morfar. Bogen beretter om både en visionær forretningsmand, selvstændig som 24-årig, og en nidkær lægprædikant, der stod "for Guds åsyn" (2. Kor. 2:17) med Hans ord. Min morfar var ikke en "kamæleon", der skifter farve "efter som vinder blæser" (Efes.br. 4:14). Han var kontroversiel, men man vidste, hvor man havde ham. Hans svigerfar var "brødkongen" Viggo Schulstad, som gav ham en medgift, der kom forretningseventyret til gode.
