This book, Abu Mayanja MP: The intellectual star of Uganda's "Struggle" for independence and the search for a liberal democratic state, 1929-2005, is a biography of a brilliant African politician, a history of a country and a continent told through the lens and activities of an individual politician.The book breaks new ground in how Uganda and Africa have been viewed by academic and popular opinion. Mayanja's life sheds light on the last days of colonialism and the early postcolonial history of Uganda and other African countries. First, although Africa, particularly Uganda, is viewed by popular imagination through the images of dictatorial and corrupt African leaders like Amin, Obote, Mubotu, Bokassa, Bongo and others, there were, and still are, voices of reason who advocated for the advantages of good governance.Secondly, it shows that it is not only heads of states who influenced the political direction of postcolonial states in the period just before and after independence. Other actors shaped the opinions of the masses and influenced how laws were formed and implemented. Este estudo analisa as relações da Turquia com a União Europeia entre dezembro de 1997 e dezembro de 2004 para compreender as principais dinâmicas subjacentes à democratização e às reformas dos direitos humanos na Turquia durante o período em causa. Para este efeito, a investigação centra-se em três factores: (1) o impacto da UE, em especial a condicionalidade de Copenhaga (2) a estrutura governamental (coligação vs. governo maioritário) (3) o nível de empenhamento do partido/partidos governantes no objetivo de adesão à UE. A comparação entre três períodos das relações Turquia-UE (1997-1999, 1999-2002, 2002-2004) permite identificar a importância relativa de cada fator para as reformas. Ao combinar as origens internacionais e internas das reformas políticas da Turquia, o estudo realça a importância central das ligações internas-internacionais para fins teóricos e políticos. Esta investigação foi realizada no Departamento de Política da Universidade da Virgínia sob a supervisão dos Professores John M. Owen e William B. Quandt. A investigação foi concluída em agosto de 2007.

Presenta situazioni sia teoriche che pratiche di buon governo nel luogo di studio selezionato. Questo libro ha un vantaggio fondamentale per valutare e conoscere la buona governance nelle amministrazioni locali dei Paesi in via di sviluppo come il mio Paese, l'Etiopia. Poiché il buon governo è un modo legittimo, responsabile ed efficace di ottenere e utilizzare il potere e le risorse pubbliche nel perseguimento di obiettivi sociali ampiamente accettati, questo libro contiene anche i punti cruciali per praticare il buon governo nel governo locale. D'altra parte, il governo locale è un organismo che svolge funzioni di governo a livello locale. Os objectivos deste estudo são avaliar até que ponto os impactos do crescimento económico da China são transmitidos a África, tanto positiva como negativamente, através da relação comercial bilateral e fornecer alguns conselhos políticos sobre a forma como os países africanos podem maximizar os benefícios económicos e minimizar os custos deste canal comercial cada vez mais importante. A conclusão desta análise do perfil e do desempenho comercial de África é que as suas exportações são determinadas pelas exportações de petróleo e sê-lo-ão pelo menos no futuro a médio prazo, o valor destas exportações de petróleo é determinado quase exclusivamente pela quota da OPEP controlada por um cartel, uma quota sobre a qual alguns países africanos, enquanto membros da OPEP, têm alguma influência e, finalmente, que a relação comercial do petróleo com a China é complexa, na medida em que está inexoravelmente ligada ao investimento e à ajuda chineses nos países africanos, tendo esta última sido desenvolvida e desempacotada nos documentos complementares sobre as relações de ajuda China-África e as relações de investimento China-África.

L'obiettivo di questo studio è quello di capire in che misura gli impatti della crescita economica cinese si trasmettono all'Africa, sia positivamente che negativamente, attraverso le relazioni commerciali bilaterali e di fornire alcuni consigli politici su come i Paesi africani possano massimizzare i benefici economici e minimizzare i costi di questo canale commerciale sempre più importante. La conclusione di questa analisi del profilo e della performance commerciale dell'Africa è che le sue esportazioni sono determinate dalle esportazioni di petrolio e lo saranno almeno nel futuro a medio termine, il valore di queste esportazioni di petrolio è determinato quasi esclusivamente dalla quota OPEC controllata dal cartello, una quota sulla quale alcuni Paesi africani, in quanto membri dell'OPEC, hanno una certa influenza, e infine che la relazione commerciale del petrolio con la Cina è complessa in quanto è inesorabilmente legata agli investimenti e agli aiuti cinesi nei Paesi africani; questi ultimi sono stati approfonditi e spiegati nei documenti di accompagnamento sulle relazioni di aiuto Cina-Africa e sulle relazioni di investimento Cina-Africa.

La recherche a été finalisée en août 2007.

Il présente à la fois des situations théoriques et pratiques de la bonne gouvernance dans le lieu d'étude choisi. Ce livre présente un avantage primordial pour évaluer et connaître la bonne gouvernance au sein des gouvernements locaux dans les pays en développement tels que mon pays, l'Éthiopie. La bonne gouvernance étant un moyen légitime, responsable et efficace d'obtenir et d'utiliser le pouvoir et les ressources publics dans la poursuite d'objectifs sociaux largement acceptés, ce livre comporte également des points cruciaux pour la pratique de la bonne gouvernance dans les gouvernements locaux. D'autre part, le gouvernement local est un organe qui exécute les tâches gouvernementales au niveau local. Il s'agit d'un gouvernement autonome impliquant l'administration des affaires publiques dans chaque localité par un organe de représentants élus de la communauté locale, connu sous le nom de conseil local.

Los objetivos de este estudio son determinar en qué medida los efectos del crecimiento económico de China se transmiten a África, tanto positiva como negativamente, a través de la relación comercial bilateral, y ofrecer algunas recomendaciones políticas sobre cómo los países africanos pueden maximizar los beneficios económicos y minimizar los costes de este canal comercial cada vez más importante. Este estudio examina las relaciones de Turquía con la Unión Europea desde diciembre de 1997 hasta diciembre de 2004 para comprender las principales dinámicas que subyacen a la democratización y las reformas en materia de derechos humanos en Turquía durante el periodo en cuestión. Para ello, la investigación se centra en tres factores: (1) el impacto de la UE, en particular la condicionalidad de Copenhague (2) la estructura del gobierno (gobierno de coalición frente a gobierno mayoritario) (3) el nivel de compromiso del partido o partidos gobernantes con el objetivo de adhesión a la UE. La comparación entre tres periodos de las relaciones Turquía-UE (1997-1999, 1999-2002, 2002-2004) permite identificar la importancia relativa de cada factor para las reformas. Al combinar los orígenes internacionales e internos de las reformas políticas de Turquía, el estudio subraya la importancia central de los vínculos internos-internacionales a efectos teóricos y políticos. Por otra parte, el gobierno local es un organismo que ejecuta las tareas de gobierno a nivel local. Se trata de un autogobierno que implica la administración de los asuntos públicos en cada localidad por parte de un órgano de representantes electos de la comunidad local conocido como consejo local.
