Über Studies on root-knot nematode disease on pomegranate orchards
Root knot nematodes are considered one of the pests that attack the most crops worldwide and cause damage and loses in crop quality and quantity. They infect pomegranate and cause high reduction in yield quantity and may prevent food exports to European countries. So, the warm regions such Egypt, Pakistan, India and Iran that cultivate pomegranate suffer from nematodes especially root-knot nematodes. In this book we try to identify the species that are widespread on pomegranate orchards in Egypt. We found that the dominant species is Meloidogyne javanica. We isolated certain bio agents from pomegranate rhizosphere and evaluated them in vitro against J2 stage. Also we used certain plant extracts, iron and silver nanoparticles to manage this trouble. We found that bio agents, plant extracts and nanoparticles are promising as nematode management methods.
