Über The Effectiveness of Confidence Interventions on Amateur Athletes
Confidence is defined by Karageoeghis and Terry as ¿the certainty that a person is equal to the task at hand as a result of an absolute belief in ability¿. Confidence within self although can be influenced by a trait (a stable element of personality), is determined by how resilient a person is of that part of personality. In sporting context, it is widely acclaimed by researchers, theorists and practitioners that confidence is the most critical psychological characteristic influencing performance (see Bandura, 1986; Vealey et al, 1998; Jones and Hanton, 2001). 'The Effectiveness of Positive Self-Talk, Imagery and Confidence Profiling as Confidence Interventions on Amateur Athletes Perceptions of Self-Confidence' The present study investigates the effectiveness in different confidence enhancing techniques (Positive Self-Talk, Imagery and Confidence Profiling) in amateur track and field athletes.
