Über Tissue Culture Studies in Chlorophytum borivilianum
This Book on ¿Tissue culture studies in safed musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum Sant and Fern.)¿ focus on standardization of the suitable type of expalnt for micropropagation and standardization of concentration of growth regulators for shoot and root morphogenesis. Chlorophytum borivilianum (Safed Musli ) a unique gift of nature to mankind since the time immemorial. The major constraint in the cultivation of safed musli is a long tuber dormancy to the tune of 6-7 months. Due to the long dormancy period, only one crop per year can be grown. Other constraints include shortage of quality planting material, bulky nature of tuber and lower tuber multiplication rate. Micropropagation is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative and feasible means in the propagation of most of the commercially important plants. In vitro multiplication of safed musli allows large multiplication of disease free propagules in a short duration and on a year round basis. Hence, the investigations were carried out to standardize the type of explant for rapid multiplication, standardization of growth regulator concentration and combinations of these for better culture establishment.
