C'est peut-être le seul quartier de Naples un peu tranquille.

Je ne puis voir ces enfans, qui avec une pipe & du savon battu dans de l¿eau, s¿amusent à faire ces belles vessies colorées, que le souffle dilate si prodigieusement, sans les comparer à la nature. Il me semble qüelle prend comme eux, sans y songer, les moyens les plus simples pour opérer. Il est vrai qüelle ne se met pas plus en dépense, pour donner à la terre un prince qui doit la faire trembler, que pour faire éclore l¿herbe qüon foule aux pieds. Un peu de boue, une goutte de morve, forme l¿homme & l¿insecte ; & la plus petite portion de mouvement a suffi pour faire jouer la machine du monde.

Bidard, qui le premier eut la patience de me faire apprendre et réciter: «J'aime, tu aimes, il aime...¿deux fois deux quatre, trois fois trois neuf,» et qui le premier perdit son temps et sa peine à inaugurer chaque page neuve de mes cahiers par un bel exemple de coulée ou d'anglaise, que je prétendais avoir recopié quand j'avais outrageusement chamarré de traits diffus et informes le reste de la feuille.
