Agnes Strickland (1796-1874) and her sister Elizabeth collaborated on many biographical projects, including this eight-volume series. Pioneering figures in women's history, they included discussion of domestic matters ignored by earlier historians. Volume 5 (1854) covers Mary Stuart's reign from the birth of James VI (1566) to her abdication.
